Fulfilling the Great Commission by raising Christ-centred disciples to plant vibrant, biblical churches in our cities and countries all over the world

On the first day of 2014, 7 of us from Hope Church Brisbane embarked on a meaningful trip to a beautiful country – Cambodia. It was truly God’s blessing for us to visit this country for the first time. The main focus of our trip was to support the work of the Cambodian local team by organising a youth camp and kids evangelistic party. Although our team members are experienced in the youth ministry, none of us have had actual experience with kids. Despite our nervousness we decided to step out in faith, avail whatever we had to God and trust God for what He has in store.

Our mission trip started with a 2-day youth camp at a town called Takhmao. Despite a packed schedule we managed to talk to some local young believers. Through their heartfelt sharing, we witnessed the evident work of God in their lives. One brother in particular shared his story as an ex gang leader and how God touched and transformed his life. It was not easy for him to leave the past and follow Christ. When he decided to leave the gang he was beaten and hunted down by local gang members. Every time he wanted to fight back, the Holy Spirit reminded him about love and forgiveness. By God’s grace, this Brother successfully withdrew from the gang and now he boldly witnesses Christ to his friends. The testimonies from these young brothers and sisters truly inspired us. But more so, we were touched by their faith and desire in knowing God more and having a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.

After the 2-day youth camp at Takhmao concluded, we traveled to a small village close by to organize a kids’ evangelistic gathering. There were around 70 children in total from the age of 4 to 10. Our team led the kids in a few praise songs followed by some games, activities and a short sharing on ‘Jesus my best friend’. At the end of the gathering we were all struck by a scene—as the local pastor led a closing prayer all 70 of them closed their eyes and bowed their heads to pray with sincere hearts. We were touched by their childlike faith. After the program, we spent some time with the local pastor and his family. He shared about his heart for God, for Cambodia and for the people of Cambodia. Despite all challenges he chose not to give up on God’s call on his life to pastor the local church. “I know God loves Cambodians, so I obeyed God and stayed in this village to serve His people here,” he shared with teary eyes. Truly, God loves this nation and He has a great plan for these people. We were very encouraged by his faith and obedience towards God’s call.

This trip has blessed all our hearts way beyond what we had to offer to God and the local ministry. We witnessed God’s work in Cambodia. During the trip we spent most of our time with local youths and kids. We pray and believe that the younger generation in Cambodia will continue to experience God, be touched and used by Him to share the good news to the people of Cambodia. Brothers and Sisters in Cambodia, continue to be the light of the world that shines so brightly for our Saviour King!

Matthew 5:14-15 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven”
